Accused Allegedly Beat Child to Death with Kicks, Punches and Metal Ladle
Lucknow: In a swift operation, the Madhya Police in Lucknow have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of brutally killing a six-year-old child. The police also recovered the alleged murder weapon—a metal ladle/spatula—from the accused’s possession based on his disclosure.
According to police officials, the case came to light on July 5, 2026, when Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Katra Diwankheda in Unnao district, lodged a complaint alleging that his young son had been assaulted and killed by the accused. Based on the complaint, a murder case was registered at Madhya Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The FIR named Prashant Singh alias Gaurav Singh, a resident of Saraiya Pahadpur village in Ayodhya district, and another accused in connection with the child’s death.
Arrest Following Informer’s Tip-Off
On July 6, a Madhya Police team was conducting routine patrol and surveillance duty near Naubasta Mor when it received information from an informer that the murder accused was standing near the railway tracks beneath the Madhya Bridge and was preparing to flee.
Acting immediately on the tip-off, police reached the location and apprehended the suspect. During questioning, he identified himself as Prashant Singh alias Gaurav Singh (26), son of Prabhat Chandra Singh and a resident of Saraiya Pahadpur village under Gosainganj Police Station in Ayodhya.
The accused was taken into custody and arrested in accordance with legal procedures. Police said all guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court and the Human Rights Commission were followed during the arrest process.
Alleged Assault Led to Child’s Death
According to investigators, the accused allegedly assaulted the six-year-old child with kicks, punches and a metal ladle/spatula, causing fatal injuries. The child later died as a result of the assault.

During the investigation, police recovered the alleged weapon used in the crime based on the accused’s disclosure.

Further Investigation Underway
The accused is being produced before the competent court for judicial proceedings. Police are also verifying whether he has any previous criminal record by seeking information from other districts and police stations.
Officials said the investigation is continuing to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident and to determine the role of other persons named in the case.

Police described the arrest as an important breakthrough in the case and said further legal action is in progress.
